Photographic Concept

This is a series of a photographic concept for an upcoming feature film that i will be working for the next two years. For those who are familiar with my work might have a clue about the project. It’s basically an extension of a concept that I’ve been working from the last two years.  But this time, is no longer going to be an experimental film. It’s going to be a pure drama film. Hopefully the production is going to start around the mid of 2010.

REOG PONOROGO (Indonesian Pyschedelic-Trance-Performance Art)

REOG PONOROGO is an Indonesian traditional performance art originally from Ponorogo city of East Java, Indonesia. Two weeks ago they performed in front of Takashimaya, Orchard Road, SINGAPORE. In my opinion, it is probably the 2nd most psychedelic-trance performance after the Balinese Kecak Dance. If you love Kecak Dance, then you gonna love Reog Ponorogo as well. Unfortunately, the version that I photographed is very much a ” Pleas Visit Indonesia Year” promotional version. Therefore, it didn’t really explore the authentic representation of the original Reog Ponorogo ritual.

Jatilan Dancers

These beautiful women were about to perform the Jatilan Dance, which is an opening dance for the Reog Ponorogo performance art (http://www.joglosemar.co.id/peoplecult/reog/index.html). These women were actually playing the role of a group of young and good looking male soldiers. But like in most Javanese performance art, the role of men are always portrayed by beautiful women.
